The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class John A. Comiskey (MCSN: 1208067), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Machine Gun Squad Leader of Company E, Second Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 5 September 1952. Participating in the defense of a strategic hill, Private First Class Comiskey fearlessly moved his machine gun to an exposed area on the top of a bunker to direct more effective fire against the enemy and prevent them from overrunning the position. With the unit subjected to an intense hostile artillery and mortar barrage and an attack by a large enemy force, he steadfastly refused evacuation when he sustained painful wounds and bravely remained at his position to direct another man in firing his gun. By his marked courage, aggressive fighting spirit and resolute determination, Private First Class Comiskey greatly aided in inflicting numerous casualties upon the enemy and served to inspire all who observed him, thereby upholding the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
