The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Raymond S. Buskus (MCSN: 347137), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with an anti-tank unit of Battery D, First Special Weapons Battalion, FIRST Marine Division in combat against enemy Japanese forces on Cape Gloucester, New Britain, 27 December 1943. When enemy forces threatened to break through our lines, Corporal Buskus unhesitatingly rushed forward through a barrage of intense hostile fire to a place within twenty-five yards of Japanese machine guns. Courageously maintaining his exposed position, he fought with fierce determination until fatally wounded by a hostile grenade. Corporal Buskus’ daring initiative and selfless devotion to duty in the face of grave peril were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
