The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Donald S. Bush (MCSN: 0-7010), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights over enemy territory from 27 November 1950 to 3 December 1950. Major Bush while serving as a Pilot with the FIRST Marine Aircraft Wing Photographic Unit successfully completed his 31st to 35th combat photographic missions against the enemy over Korea. During this period he flew photographic coverage of roads and enemy supply routes along the Manchurian border where heavy anti-aircraft fire was received. His skilled airmanship and devotion to duty contributed materially to the success of our ground forces during this critical period. His actions throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Donald S. Bush (MCSN: 0-7010), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Pilot in Headquarters Squadron THIRTY-THREE during photographic missions in Korea from 8 July to 16 December 1950. Prior to and during the Inch’on-Seoul engagement, Major Bush carried out repeated, unescorted flights deep into hostile territory to procure vital aerial photographs which were subsequently used in planning operations. Despite heavy enemy anti-aircraft fire, he obtained excellent photographic coverage of hostile supply routes extending to the Manchurian Border and secured other valuable aerial photographs which aided materially in the successful withdrawal of the FIRST Marine Division from the Chosin Reservoir Area. His courage, skilled airmanship and fearless devotion to duty throughout reflect great credit upon Major Bush and the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Donald S. Bush (MCSN: 0-7010), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in connection with military operations against the enemy in the Bismarck Archipelago Islands Area and the Philippine Islands from 23 October 1943 to 12 January 1945. Major Bush completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred and on one or more of these missions such enemy opposition was encountered. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.
