The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Floyd W. Burdge (MCSN: 279675), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving onboard the U.S.S. BROOKLYN during the assault on and occupation of French Morocco from November 8 to 11, 1942. In a fierce engagement with hostile surface forces, Sergeant Burdge, serving as a member of the crew of an anti-aircraft gun, was painfully wounded by enemy shellfire. With complete disregard for his own suffering and discomfort, he immediately proceeded up two decks and manned another gun until he was ordered below for medical attention. His indomitable fighting spirit and valiant devotion to duty under extremely adverse conditions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
