The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class William L. Brummer (MCSN: 486348), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company B, First Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy e force on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 17 June 1944. During a strong tank and infantry counterattack on his company’s sector, Private First Class Brummer voluntarily left his sheltered position and went forward under intense enemy machine-gun fire to stop and destroy a hostile tank with antitank grenades. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Brummer and the United States Naval Service.
