The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Sergeant Marshall V. Brooks (MCSN: 225390), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Reconnaissance Company, Headquarters Battalion, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 26 June 1944. During a heavy enemy mortar and machine-gun concentration on his platoon position, First Sergeant Brooks went forward three times to carry wounded men to a protected area where medical attention could be rendered. His devotion to duty saved the lives of three members of his command and was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
