The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Daniel R. Bronson (MCSN: 359206), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company A, First Battalion, Second Marines, SECOND Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Tinian, Mariana Islands, on 29 July 1944. When his patrol was ambushed and pinned down by enemy soldiers armed with machine guns, Private First Class Bronson remained at his position at the head of the column for five minutes in order to divert the enemy’s attention while the remainder of the patrol withdrew to safety. Although seriously wounded during this time, he succeeded in dragging himself and his weapon back to our lines without assistance. His initiative and devotion to duty contributed materially to the saving of many lives and reflect the highest credit upon First Class Bronson and the United States Naval Service.
