The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Troy Brock (MCSN: 906006), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company A, Twentieth Marines (Engineers), FOURTH Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces at Saipan, Mariana Islands, on 16 June 1944. Gallantly risking his life to attempt the rescue of a fallen Marine during a fire fight with a deeply entrenched enemy, Private Brock, although suffering intense pain from wounds received during the action, unhesitatingly crossed an open fire-swept area and succeeded in evacuating his helpless comrade. Then returning to his position, he continued his determined fight against the Japanese, rendering valuable service to our forces before being ordered to evacuate for treatment. By his initiative, courage and self-sacrificing devotion to duty, Private Brock contributed materially to the success of our operations against this vital hostile stronghold and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
