The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal John C. Brinser (MCSN: 440603), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as Leader of the Antitank Gun Squad of the Regimental Weapons Company, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, during operations against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 5 July 1944. When his gun position was suddenly attacked, Corporal Brinser braved heavy enemy fire to reorganize his squad and enable our forces to repel the following Japanese assault. Continuing to render valuable service, during hours of darkness on 25 July, he led his squad in attacking and destroying two hostile tanks. His courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
