The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Donald R. Brimmer (MCSN: 0-49882), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Rifle Platoon Commander of Company I, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 20 May 1951. When a numerically superior enemy force penetrated the company’s position, First Lieutenant Brimmer quickly organized a portion of his platoon and launched a vicious counterattack. Fearlessly exposing himself to withering hostile automatic weapons and small arms fire, he skillfully maneuvered his men and succeeded in forcing the determined enemy from the strategic position, accounting for a total of 32 enemy dead. By his aggressive leadership, courageous initiative and unswerving devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Brimmer served to inspire all who observed him and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
