The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Morris E. Brickley (MCSN: 560409), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving in a Platoon of Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-seventh Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in the action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, from 19 February to 23 March 1945. When four members of his platoon were seriously wounded by enemy hand grenades and were lying in an unprotected position near the Japanese lines, Private First Class Brickley braved heavy hostile fire to go to the aid of the casualties and, with assistance from the less seriously wounded, succeeded in evacuating them to a point where medical attention was available. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Brickley and the United States Naval Service.
