The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class August W. Boschen (MCSN: 383566), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Member of a Patrol of the Twenty-first Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 26 July 194. With his patrol engaged in destroying enemy forces which had infiltrated and were operating behind our lines, Private First Class Boschen courageously advanced to aid a comrade in fighting off a group of enemy soldiers firing from a well concealed position. Charging the hostile position, he assisted in killing one of the enemy and causing another to kill himself. Later, when his squad executed a strategic withdrawal under enemy mortar and rifle fire, Private First Class Boschen again assumed an exposed position and covered the evacuation of three wounded members of the patrol. His coolness under fire and aggressive actions throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
