Disregarding his own personal safety, he calmly and effectively manipulated his electronic detection gear to assist in the successful suppression of the surface-to-air missile activity in the target area of the fighter-bomber force. In spite of heavy ground fire, surface-to-air missile threats, and hostile aircraft in the area, Captain Johnson remained in the area for twelve minutes and aggressively engaged the hostile and threatening surface-to-air missile sites upon every encounter. In spite of bad weather and poor visibility, heavy anti-aircraft fire, and hostile aircraft activity, Captain Johnson was so effective on his SAM suppression mission that not one missile was fired at any of the friendly interceptor aircraft. His efforts directly contributed to the overall mission results of seven MiG-21 aircraft destroyed with no friendly losses.
