The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Delbert Bobb (MCSN: 522440), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company I, Third Battalion, Twenty-Second Marines (Reinforced), FIFTH Amphibious Corps, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the invasion of Eniwetok and Parry Islands, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands Group, from 18 to 23 February 1944. Stationed always in the front lines of any assault company to which he was assigned, Private Bobb performed his duties of caring for and evacuating the wounded and, despite the continuous danger of enemy rifle, Machine gun and mortar fire and the numbing exhaustion to which other stretcher bearers temporarily succumbed, contributed substantially to the saving of many lives. His spirit of self-sacrifice, courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private Bobb and the United States Naval Service.
