The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Miller M. Blue (MCSN: 287054), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as Acting Platoon Leader of Company C, First Battalion, Twenty-Fourth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 25 June 1944. When his Platoon Leader was wounded during an intense fire fight with the enemy, Sergeant Blue assumed command and, after directing the evacuation of the wounded, skillfully reorganized his men for defense against continuing hostile counterattacks. During an attack against a strongly held Japanese position on 8 July, he again assumed command of his platoon and courageously led his men in annihilating a determined enemy. Continuing to lead the platoon during the remainder of the Marianas Campaign, Sergeant Blue contributed materially to the success of the operation. His leadership, initiative and aggressive fighting spirit throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
