The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Michael E. Blotter, Jr. (MCSN: 364352), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company D, First Marine Raider Battalion in action against enemy Japanese forces on Tulagi, Solomon Islands, 7 August 1942. In spite of wounds received during a daring Marine Raider attack, Private Blotter courageously maneuvered himself to a position which enabled him to throw hand grenades into a Japanese gun emplacement. By his heroism and skill he contributed materially to the advancement of his company and the subsequent destruction of the enemy. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
