The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Albert L. Blaisdell (MCSN: 266234), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a Tank Commander of the Third Armored Amphibian Battalion (Provisional), Corps Troops, THIRD Amphibious Corps, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Ngesebus, Palau Islands, on 25 September 1944. When his tank approached friendly troops receiving intense enemy machine gun fire and was ordered to cease fire in order that our troops would not be further endangered, Platoon Sergeant Blaisdell unhesitatingly took up a position at the .50 caliber machine gun outside the turret where he was completely exposed to enemy fire and attempted to cover stretcher bearers evacuating casualties before he himself was severely wounded. His courage, initiative and zealous devotion to duty throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
