The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Turner A. Berry (MCSN: 815615), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with a Forward Observation Team of Battery B, Second Separate Pack Howitzer Battalion, Twenty-Second Marines (Reinforced), First Provisional Marine Brigade, THIRD Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 26 July 1944. Advancing beyond the front lines on two occasions, Private First Class Berry braved enemy fire to carry a wounded man to safety. Later the same day, he annihilated a hostile sniper who was attempting to kill the Forward Observer Officer. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Private First Class Berry and the United States Naval Service.
