The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal George Thomas Bell (MCSN: 478201), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Radio Operator in an Armored Amphibian of Company A, First Armored Amphibian Battalion, Corps Troops, Third Amphibious Corps, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Guam, Mariana Islands, 21 July 1944. When his tank was destroyed by fire and two members of the crew were killed, Corporal Bell braved heavy enemy fire to administer first aid to his wounded Platoon Leader and two other injured crewmen before evacuating them to a transport for further medical treatment. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Bell and the United States Naval Service.
