The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star (Army Award) to First Lieutenant Albert E. Bailey (MCSN: 0-14198), United States Marine Corps, for gallantry in action at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, on 26 July 1943. First Lieutenant Bailey fearlessly led a platoon of six tanks in an assault on an enemy position during which an estimated thirteen hostile emplacements were destroyed with at least thirty of the enemy killed.
