The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Constantine J. Andriotis (MCSN: 629471), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as a Machine Gunner of Company G, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division (Reinforced), in action against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 11 June 1951. While firing his machine gun in support of a rifle platoon during a fierce enemy counterattack upon the company’s position, Private First Class Andriotis was knocked to the ground and his weapon overturned when an enemy hand grenade exploded in his position. Although painfully wounded in the eye, he immediately regained his feet, put the gun back into action, and directed accurate and effective fire against the enemy. By his outstanding courage, daring initiative and indomitable fighting spirit, Private First Class Andriotis contributed materially to the successful repulse of the enemy attack and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
