The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Earl Glenn Cobeil (AFSN: 0-61453A), United States Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving with the 333d Tactical Fighter Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action near Phuc Yen, Republic of Vietnam, on 5 November 1967. On that date, Captain Cobeil was the Electronic Warfare Officer of an F-105F fighter bomber as part of a flight force directed to attack a vital airfield of hostile forces. In spite of severe battle damage to his aircraft he elected to remain in the target area to deliver his ordnance against a surface-to-air missile site which threatened the egressing main strike force. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Cobeil has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
