The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Myril H. Anderson (MCSN: 267862), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company C, First Battalion, Sixth Marines, SECOND Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 2 July 1944. When his platoon was held up by heavy machine gun and mortar fire, Private First Class Anderson courageously moved forward in an effort to locate and destroy the enemy strong point, crossing an open field in the face of an intense mortar barrage and sustaining wounds from the hostile fire. Continuing to advance, he reached a point where he could observe the Japanese machine gun and place accurate fire upon it, thereby annihilating the crew and putting the gun out of action. His courage, initiative and zealous devotion to duty throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
