The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Charlie W. Allmann (MCSN: 430734), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company K, Third Battalion, Fifth Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 24 May 1945. Although he and his entire party of five were wounded while patrolling well forward of our front lines, Corporal Allmann courageously carried out the mission in the face of intense hostile fire, gaining valuable information relative to the strength and disposition of the enemy. Then, after supervising the evacuation of the casualties in the patrol, he delivered the vital data to his unit, refusing evacuation until he had completed this mission. By his heroism, fortitude and steadfast devotion to duty, Corporal Allmann upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
