Lyle Cameron entered military service as an enlisted man, and was commissioned in 1952. He was shot down over Korea and held by the Chinese as a Prisoner of War until 1955. He retired in 1975 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

    Second Lieutenant Lyle W. Cameron, United States Air Force, was captured by communist forces after he was shot down over North Korea on 26 October 1952, and was held as a Prisoner of War until his release by the Chinese on May 30, 1955.
