The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Platoon Sergeant Clark R. Adamson (MCSN: 262887), United States Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company G, Second Battalion, Twenty-fifth Marines, FOURTH Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Mariana Islands, 6 July 1944. Determined to locate a heavily-fortified hostile emplacement while his platoon was moving into position to fill a gap in the lines, Platoon Sergeant Adamson fearlessly risked his life to reconnoiter the enemy-infested territory and, despite wounds received during his perilous mission, successfully located the concrete emplacement and returned with the vital information. By his bold initiative, outstanding fortitude and cool and courageous conduct under fire, Platoon Sergeant Adamson contributed materially to the success of our forces in capturing this vital hostile stronghold, and his unwavering devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
