The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Theodore L. Adamski (MCSN: 910148), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as an automatic rifleman in Company B, First Battalion, First Marines, FIRST Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Peleliu Island, Palau Group, 17 September 1944. When his squad was pinned down by heavy enfilade machine gun fire during an attack against a steep, strongly fortified coral ridge, Private First Class Adamski unhesitatingly left his covered position and boldly advanced to an exposed vantage point from which he directed fire into the Japanese emplacement. Although severely wounded in this encounter, he gallantly continued his devastating assault, silencing the enemy gun and enabling his platoon to advance to its objective. By his courageous fighting spirit and unceasing vigilance, Private First Class Adamski contributed essentially to the ultimate success of our mission in this strategically important island, and his selfless devotion to duty at the risk of his own life was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
