The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Harry C. Adams (Adamzak) (MCSN: 498371), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with Company C, First Battalion, Twenty-seventh Marines, FIFTH Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands, 19 February 1945. When an enemy blockhouse held up the advance of his company, Corporal Adams went forward through heavy hostile fire toward the enemy strong point and, moving into position, destroyed it with a demolition charge, thereby permitting the advance to continue. His courage and devotion to duty reflect the highest credit upon Corporal Adams and the United States Naval Service.
