The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Caesare F. Adami (MCSN: 882168), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity as a voluntary member of a combat patrol serving with Headquarters & Service Battery, Twelfth Marines, THIRD Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces in the vicinity of the Asan River, Guam, Mariana Islands, 26 July 1944. Crossing the river and establishing a position from which he was able to fire on the Japanese who had captured one of our machine guns, Private First Class Adami greatly assisted in the retaking of the emplacement. Subsequently observing a severely wounded comrade some distance away, he unhesitatingly made his way across an open area continually exposed to hostile small arms and grenade fire to aid the helpless Marine, but was himself mortally wounded. Private First Class Adami’s courageous devotion to duty, indomitable fighting spirit and self-sacrificing efforts on behalf of another were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
