The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Allie B. Burton, Jr. (AFSN: 0-714370), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of an F-84 aircraft, 69th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, 58th Fighter-Bomber Group, 58th Fighter-Bomber Wing, FIFTH Air Force, on 6 November 1952. Flying the position of wingman, he penetrated deep into enemy territory with his flight on a flak suppression mission in connection with flights on a mission to destroy a railroad bridge on the Taeryong-gang near the town of Neangjung-dong. Pressing the attack with his flight on a concentrated anti-aircraft position, Lieutenant Burton, disregarding personal safety, turned on his bomb run in spite of heavy and accurate anti-aircraft fire. His aircraft received a direct hit from this ground fire as he was on the run and he was forced to abandon the aircraft. The opening of his parachute was observed by other members of the flight. Lieutenant Burton displayed aggressiveness and cool judgment in the face of enemy fire. Through his skill, courage, and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Burton has brought great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
