The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” to Gunnery Sergeant Kristopher J. Donald, United States Marine Corps, for heroic achievement in connection with combat operations against the enemy while serving as a Company Advisor, Embedded Training Team 1-10, 2d Mechanized Infantry Kandak, 3d Brigade, 201st Corps, Afghan National Army, in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, from 15 March 2008 to 3 October 2008. Gunnery Sergeant Donald distinguished himself through selfless service in advising Afghan National Army Commanders and their Staff’s during sustained combat operations, under fire, against Anti-Afghan Forces in Kapisa Province. Gunnery Sergeant Donald was instrumental in establishing the first Afghan National Army Combat Outpost in Afghanya Valley. He personally directed and took part in the construction of the out post defenses, enabling his Kandak to project combat power deep within enemy held territory. Additionally, during this period he found and disarmed four Improvised Explosive Devices and apprehended one suspected triggerman saving countless lives. Gunnery Sergeant Donald’s distinctive contributions, steadfast devotion to duty and valor reflected great credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
