The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Captain David L. Tucker (AFSN: FR-66238), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force on 17 December 1967. On that date, Captain Tucker lead a force of twenty-eight aircraft against a heavily defended airfield in North Vietnam. Upon entering North Vietnam, Captain Tucker was hampered by extremely poor visibility and continued harassment by MiGs but was able to lead the force precisely to target, provide the force with outstanding flak suppression, and return to the target area a second time to help a lone aircraft. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Tucker has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
