The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Colonel Robert Earl Turner (AFSN: 0-3005953), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Operations Officer, 460th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Aerospace Defense Command, from 14 September 1969 to 16 April 1971. In this important assignment, the leadership, exemplary foresight and ceaseless efforts consistently demonstrated by Colonel Turner resulted in significant contributions to the defense capabilities of the United States. With his devotion to duty and dedication to the United States, Colonel Turner creased the World-Wide Mission concept for the Aerospace Defense Command and provided the personnel and equipment with the training and capabilities to insure that this mission is a reality. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Turner reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
