The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Bruce D. Stocks, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as a Pilot of an F-105F Thunderchief of the 333d Tactical Fighter Squadron, 355th Tactical Fighter Wing, Takhli Royal Thai Air Base, in action over North Vietnam, on 24 October 1967. On that date, Major Stocks was leading a flight on a classified mission in support of the first strike against a highly important military target in the Red River delta. Although hindered by aircraft malfunctions, Major Stocks successfully accomplished his assigned mission, and then destroyed a surface-to-air missile launch site which had launched two missiles at his aircraft. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Stocks has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
