The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Monte Larue Moorberg (AFSN: 0-62699), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot over North Vietnam on 27 September 1966. On that date, Captain Moorberg was a member of a flight of F-105’s assigned to support a large strike force by preceding it to the target and suppressing the flak in the immediate target area. Despite extremely accurate and intense anti-aircraft fire, reduced visibility, and threats from nearby SA-2 surface-to-air missile sites, he delivered is high explosive ordnance directly into the target area causing extensive destruction and immediately silencing the gun emplacements. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Moorberg reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
