The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Third Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to Major James Helms Kasler (AFSN: O-2221728/24551A), United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Thunderchief pilot near Yen Bay, North Vietnam on 26 April 1966. On that date, Major Kasler was deputy mission commander of a daring night low level raid against the heavily defended crucial Yen Bay Arsenal. Using radar navigation and bombing techniques, Major Kasler braved withering hostile defensive fire and treacherous mountains alone to penetrate to this stronghold of hostile military might and deliver his ordnance with devastating effect. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Kasler reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
