(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Staff Sergeant Jason M. Kuehnl, United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life while serving as a Marine Combat Instructor at Camp Pendleton, California, on 31 October 2008. On that date while instructing in grenade use, a student threw a live grenade that failed to clear the wall and fell back into the pit. Staff Sergeant Kuehnl quickly wrapped his arms around the student and pushed him out of the pit to safety.
