(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Fire Controlman Second Class Jason Murphy, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life while saving the life of a fellow Sailor involved in a motorcycle accident at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel in Norfolk, Virginia on 22 March 2008. Petty Officer Murphy and a fellow sailor saw the victim floating in the water and stripped to their undergarments and unhesitantly plunged into the 52-degree water, swam about 25 yards in the morning darkness, and retrieved the injured man who was unconscious and drowning. His efforts undoubtedly saved the man’s life.
