(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Aviation Ordnanceman First Class Eric C. Lewis, United States Navy, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism at the risk of life while serving with Attack Squadron ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-FIVE in January 1989. Petty Officer Lewis took heroic action during a fire involving a KA-6D tanker aircraft at U.S. Naval Air Station, Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines, saving the life of the plane captain, the pilot and countless others when the aircraft suddenly burst into flames following a fuel spill during a routine hot refueling operation.
