(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander Howard Willis Alexander (NSN: 595813), United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in jet aircraft with Attack Squadron ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FOUR (VA-144), in U.S.S. TICONDEROGA (CVA-14), on 16 April 1966 in a combat mission in Southeast Asia.
