The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant Charles R. Allison (MCSN: 0-80631), United States Marine Corps, for heroism while participating in aerial flight while serving in Marine All Weather Fighter Squadron TWO HUNDRED THIRTY-FIVE (VMA(AW)-235), on 16 January 1964. As Flight Leader of a two-aircraft section Lieutenant Allison exhibited profound regard for the safety of mankind at the expense of his own safety by successfully guiding his disabled aircraft away from a highly populated area, delaying his escape from the aircraft to ensure that it would crash into a relatively open area, and in so doing lost his life. His exemplary conduct, devotion to duty, and utmost regard for his fellow man are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
