Akins (MCSN: 0-78053), United States Marine Corps, was awarded the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commanding Officer of Company M, Third Battalion, Fourth Marines, in Vietnam from 20 March to 2 July 1966.
