The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade James K. Alleman, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. At approximately 1030 hours on 23 February 1943, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Alleman, A-V(N), while on routine patrol from Henderson Field, Guadalcanal Island, dropped two depth charged on a Japanese submarine between Cape Esperance, Guadalcanal Island, and the Russell Islands, Solomon Islands. Much oil was seen to come to the surface, and prolonged observation indicated the probable destruction of the submarine. His conduct was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
