The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Radioman Third Class Bert P. Fuller, United States Coast Guard, for heroism in rendering assistance to wounded personnel of the U.S.S. LCI-442 during landing operations at Parry Island, Eniwetok Atoll, Marshall Islands on or about 18 February 1944. While this vessel was burning as the result of a direct hit and in probably danger of further explosions, he went aboard the LCI-442 and rendered assistance to wounded and others at a time when the ship’s personnel were able to do so. His courageous action undoubtedly resulted in the prevention of loss of life of many of those injured. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
