The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Thomas Leigh Hosch (AFSN: 16373181), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-4C Aircraft Commander and Flight Leader in defense of Landing Zone DOT Special Forces Camp, Republic of Vietnam, on 14 November 1968. On that date, Major Hosch scrambled from night alert posture in response to an urgent request for life-saving support for the Free World forces defending the camp against a furious assault by hostile forces. Working under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions, Major Hosch made repeated bombing passes through intense hostile ground fire and delivered his ordnance with such devastating accuracy that the immediate threat to the camp was eliminated. His heroic actions enabled the beleaguered camp to receive critically needed medical evacuation and re-supply assistance and resulted in the destruction of four automatic weapons sites. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Hosch has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
