Basilia Steward, a Philippine nurse, married Navy Lieutenant Jerry A. Steward l938. Both were captured at the fall of the Philippine Islands and held as prisoners of war. Each spent the next 3 years in terrible prison camps without seeing each other until both were liberated by Army Rangers and Philippine forces in l945.
