Headquarters, 6th Armored Division, General Orders No. 165 (1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Raymond W. Johnson (ASN: 37098866), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 6th Armored Infantry Battalion, 1st Armored Division. On 28 January 1943, Private First Class Johnson distinguished himself in action against an armed enemy in the vicinity of Ousseltia, Tunisia. Upon his own initiative, Private First Class Johnson worked his way to the crest of a hill under fire from enemy artillery to withdraw an abandoned 37-mm. anti-tank gun to a position where it could be towed by a vehicle. This courageous action of Private First Class Johnson resulted in recovery of a valuable piece of equipment that might have fallen into the hands of the enemy.
