The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Staff Sergeant Eugene Brumblay (AFSN: 15578379), United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life on 27 July 1960 during a NATO exercise at St. Sauveur Air Base (a French NATO Base), Luxeuil, France. While working on a T-33A aircraft, Sergeant Brumblay heard a loud thumping noise. Turning in the direction of the noise, He saw a burning T-33A aircraft on whose wing a burning French Airman was reeling about. Without regard for his own safety, Sergeant Brumblay rushed to the burning aircraft behind whose wing the victim had fallen still on fire. Together with another French Airman, Sergeant Brumblay put out the fire on the burning victim and assisted in carrying him out of the danger area. By totally disregarding his own safety and risking his life to save the life of another allied member, Sergeant Brumblay performed in a manner in keeping with our most cherished military traditions. The exemplary courage and humanitarianism displayed by Sergeant Brumblay reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
