The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Private William W. Noyes, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 12 May 1864, while serving with Company F, 2d Vermont Infantry, in action at Spotsylvania, Virginia. Standing upon the top of the breastworks, Private Noyes deliberately took aim and fired no less than 15 shots into the enemy’s lines, but a few yards away.
