The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel Harry Oliver Amos, Jr., United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States while assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency from September 1970 to April 1972. As Defense Attach and Army Attach, United States Defense Attach Office, Phnom Penh, Khmer Republic (Cambodia), he served with distinction as a representative of the Department of Defense. His professional acumen, untiring dedication and exceptional understanding of the politico-military situation in Cambodia were repeatedly reflected in the invaluable military assessments provided to the United States Government. Colonel Amos’ performance earned the highest trust and appreciation of the Government of the Khmer Republic, testimony to his profound impact on accomplishment of United States objectives in Cambodia. The exemplary accomplishments of Colonel Amos have reflected great credit upon himself, the United States Army, and the Defense Intelligence Agency.
